Going Nuts Before Working Out

During a recent interview, Chalene Johnson was asked if she ate anything before working out. She said that she usually just had some almonds because she found that if she ate, for example a protein bar (300 cal.), it was like a meal and she wanted to eat more.

I thought I’d post her suggestion here and ask if any of our readers had found any other pre-workout foods/drinks that worked for them? I’ve also read that drinking coffee can prior to working out can also give you the energy boost you need to get through it. Does anyone do this? How about one of the many pre-workout energy drinks available?
